Job description

About the team

Now is a hugely exciting time to join Ofqual’s Digital and Data team. We’re transforming the way that we deliver our services by placing the right emphasis on Product Delivery using User Centred Design principles.

We put our user needs first, and by working alongside other talented product owners, user researchers and interaction designers who use techniques to create and synthesise insights from multiple sources, you’ll make informed decisions to deliver business value, failing fast, iterating, and continuously improving our services so that they meet - and exceed – todays, and the future needs of all our users.

You’ll do this by drawing on your own product management skills, while working within the GOV.UK Service Manual and Service Standard.

What will the post holder be doing?

As a member of a multidisciplinary delivery team, you will be responsible for the quality of the products and make decisions about priorities.

You will work with user researchers to understand user needs and balance these with business goals, framing problems in a way that aligns with these goals, and setting priorities for the team to ensure that the product meets the needs of users and achieves business priorities.

You will develop and maintain a high level roadmap for products within your portfolio, working closely with the wider business, external stakeholders and Ofqual's digital and data team to communicate these effectively.

You will understand and apply the principles of Ofqual’s corporate plan in your work, ensuring that there is a clear and consistent connection between your work and Ofqual’s corporate goals.

Duties and responsibilities to include, but is not limited to:

  • Manage products through discovery, alpha, beta and live states
  • Collaborate with user researchers and represent users internally, balancing complex needs of the business with the needs of users
  • Build relationships with stakeholders to foster trust and cooperation whilst being able to effectively manage conflict between stakeholder requirements and what can be delivered
  • Champion the importance of data as a product, reporting and BI requirements and innovation as part of solution development
  • Work closely with technical, data, design, and user research teams to define the minimum viable product (MVP) and make, communicate, promote and be accountable for decisions about priorities
