Job description

Guildhall School of Music and Drama is a world-leading specialist Performing Arts conservatoire, investing in the artists of today and tomorrow. The School is a vibrant, international community of actors, musicians and production artists in the heart of the City of London. Ranked as one of the top conservatoires for Drama and Music in the Guardian league tables and QS World University rankings, the School is a global leader of creative and professional practice, promoting expertise, innovation and research, with over 1,000 students in higher education drawn from nearly 60 countries around the world.

We are seeking an outstanding individual to take up the post of Programme Leader, BA Digital Design & Production (https://www.gsmd.ac.uk/study-with-guildhall/production-arts/ba-digital-design-production). You will be responsible for providing leadership in all aspects of learning, teaching, assessment and quality assurance associated with the programme, its modules and teaching staff based in the Guildhall School. This includes early engagement with planning for a programme revalidation exercise, schedule for Academic Year 2024/25. You will be responsible for the student experience in relation to all academic elements including the management of resources associated with the programme. You will undertake teaching on the programme; and contribute to wider teaching and/or academic management in the Department. You will line-manage teaching staff and control budgets as appropriate. You will have experience of working in higher education settings; a good understanding of the needs of students in a complex learning environment; and the ability to represent your discipline in the public domain through professional/industry sector engagement, consultancy, and/or research (which could include practice-based research).

The Production Arts Department is responsible for BA Production Arts, BA Digital Design & Production and MA Collaborative Performance Making; a series of short courses and outreach activities; and extensive production activity in the School’s programme of public-facing performances and events. We work closely on a range of productions (including operas, dramas, site-specific and digital works) with other departments at Guildhall and (through Guildhall Live Events) a range of external and commercial partners. Our students learn through workshop-based activities, study and intensive production practice. They have opportunities to extend their knowledge by working on pathways other than their major area of study, and to develop their own interests and creative agency through independent projects. The Department is values-led and promotes diversity, equity and inclusion along with sustainable practices.

The successful candidate will have expertise in practice-based aspects of digital and screen media, and will be responsible for managing teaching on the BADDP programme. You will be organised, a team player, able to meet deadlines and manage your own workload. You will have up-to-date knowledge of Health & Safety and a commitment to promoting safe working and inclusive practices.
