The role

Are you an Engineer with a passion for problem-solving, project delivery and long-lasting and environmentally friendly projects? If so, you could be the perfect fit for our Capital Delivery project teams at United Utilities (UU). We are looking for Project Engineers who can provide engineering input, supporting us to delivery our ambitious plans in North West England, UK.

As a Project Engineer, you will play a vital role in providing engineering solutions and guidance for a range of projects in our Capital Delivery programme. You will operate at Engineering Manager level, collaborating with delivery teams and Project Managers across the project portfolio, gaining insights into the organisation, our major contracts and our biggest industry partners. You will apply your expertise to address engineering challenges unique to our industry and, by working with other experts, you will influence key aspects of our capital programme, making a significant contribution to our success and helping us to achieve our goals.

Key accountabilities

  • As a key member of our team, you will have the opportunity to work closely with Project Managers, Delivery Managers, Senior Project Engineers and stakeholders. You will use your insights and subject matter expertise (SME) to ensure the successful delivery of all engineering aspects in your areas of responsibility. You will be passionate about engineering and eager to share your knowledge and skills with others
  • As Project Engineer, you have the opportunity to shape our future and help us solve complex problems and make a positive impact to our projects and communities. You will help us improve our engineering processes and practices by embracing new ways of working, sharing your feedback and ideas. We value your contribution and we want you to be part of our continuous improvement journey
  • Your will build and maintain relationships with key internal and external stakeholders, Senior Project Engineers and Delivery Managers, maintaining proactive empathetic enduring relationships and creating a healthy, inclusive and diverse environment for our teams to flourish
  • As an engineering UU champion, you will be the voice for engineering inputs to the delivery team. You will identify and pursue opportunities to enhance our performance whilst communicating and escalating any risks or issues that are beyond your control, ensuring that the relevant stakeholders are informed and involved. You will be passionate, proactive and collaborative in your role, striving for excellence and innovation in everything you do
  • Review the progress and quality of our deliverables and suggest or implement any changes that can improve our performance. Keep track of our project budgets and make sure we are spending wisely and efficiently. When we need to present our business cases to the corporate governance group, contribute to the writing and presentation of our proposals with confidence and enthusiasm

Skills & experienceTo be successful with your application, you'll need to show that you meet the following essential criteria:

  • Relevant engineering qualification (HNC or higher) or equivalent skills, knowledge and experience
  • Experience of providing technical advice and leading the delivery of successful engineering outcomes
