The Public Health Team are a team committed to making a difference to the health and wellbeing of residents, places, and communities, to enable people to live healthy lives and reduce inequalities. We are looking to recruit someone to join the Public Health Team to drive the addictions agenda forward and create positive health outcomes.
As a Public Health Officer this is an exciting opportunity, you will work under the direction of Public Health Managers to lead and support a range of projects and programmes aimed at improving health outcomes. Working flexibly, you will work collaboratively with internal and external partners, to build on community strengths, and on evidence of what matters to local people and what works.
The initial focus for the post will be on coordinating, and commissioning interventions and services and implementing programmes of work around tobacco control and nicotine dependency and supporting the coordination of a Smokefree Westmorland and Furness to support the governments ambition to be Smokefree by 2030 (reducing smoking prevalence to 5% or under by 2030). The role will also contribute to the wider addictions agenda to create a smoke free generation supporting and the reduction in youth vaping, reducing smoking uptake, working with partners to tackle the gambling harms and other addiction agendas.
You will join a supportive team with a commitment to professional development to enable you to make your own contribution to improving and protecting the health and wellbeing of residents of Westmorland and Furness.
Our ideal candidate will have experience of the delivery or commissioning, training or of knowledge of tobacco control, nicotine and/or addictions. However, experience of working in a commissioning or provider environment, working on the determinants of health, for example, housing, environmental health, health, and social care and/or Public Health would also be an advantage.
It is required that the applicant will have proven project management skills, self-initiative, ability to work autonomously, work flexibly and build constructive relationships with people at all levels.
