Main Purpose: As a Social Worker, you will play a crucial role in fulfilling the authority’s responsibilities under the Children Act 1989 and other relevant legislation. Your primary focus will be on providing support and services to children in need, particularly those requiring protection and those under the care of the authority.
Summary of Responsibilities and Duties:
- Conduct assessments and deliver services to children in need within the framework of legislation, regulations, and departmental procedures.
- Collaborate with other divisions, council departments, healthcare providers, schools, and external organizations to ensure efficient service delivery.
- Maintain high standards of professional practice within your caseload and promote such practice within the team.
- Manage a caseload of children and families, including undertaking core assessments, implementing child protection procedures, and coordinating service provision.
- Adhere to child protection guidelines, including conducting investigations and providing reports for various meetings and court proceedings.
- Contribute to care plans for looked after children and ensure procedural requirements are met.
- Make recommendations regarding financial expenditure related to care plans.
- Undertake appropriate training and stay updated on changes in legislation, regulations, and professional practice.
- Promote equal opportunities and anti-discriminatory practice in all areas of work.

- Ability to work within legislative frameworks and be accountable to senior officers.
- Strong interpersonal skills to effectively engage with children, parents, carers, and professionals.

Qualifications:
- Degree or equivalent qualification in Social Care.
- Registration with Social Work England or ability to obtain registration prior to employment.
- Completion of an assessed and supported year in employment or willingness to undertake it as part of probationary process if newly qualified.
Special Requirements:
- Availability of a car/vehicle for business purposes.
- Possession of a current driving license.
- Satisfactory enhanced Disclosure Barring Service (DBS) check.
