Quality Engineer Job Description

Quality Engineers will perform tasks that deal directly with the quality of manufacturing and assembly of forklifts. They will act as a liaison between various engineering and support functions and the assembly and manufacturing teams, this will also include liaising with suppliers to improve the quality of parts supplied, and with the customers to enhance the delivered quality experience.
Quality Engineers will support the Quality Superintendent and Quality Manager with the coordination and management of activities such as the Customer Non-Conformance Reports, Supplier Quality Concerns, Material Review Board and Pre-Delivery Inspection processes as well as supporting production and New Product Introduction. They will have responsibility for driving improvement of quality and will be a key player in establishing and maintaining internal and external customer relationships and performance.
The main responsibilities of this role will focus on the aspect of supplier quality and include the following:
- Responsible for championing internal and external quality investigations with a focus on supplier quality.
- Drive improvement in supplier quality and support the achievement of supplier KPIs.
- Proactively supporting the resolution of customer complaints/Non-Conformance Reports in a timely and efficient manner.
- Providing technical support to Incoming Inspection and MRB (Material Review Board)
- Supporting quality planning and activities for New Product Introduction.
- Supporting production quality improvement activities and provide technical assistance in problem solving techniques.
- Monitoring supplier related activities for corrective actions, root cause analysis and sustainable permanent corrective actions via ICAM process (Interactive Corrective Action Management)
- Performing detailed analysis and interpretation of quality data.
- Support warranty cost reduction through problem identification and resolution using Quality Tools.
- Provide support as needed to Assembly & Manufacturing Value Streams on a day-to-day basis including Gemba audits.
- Process validation of equipment, tooling, materials, and documentation used in production processes to accurately and safely manufacture / assemble products.
- Identifying opportunities for continuous improvement in product and processes.
- Preparing quality reports and trend analysis on request.
Candidates must demonstrate how they meet the following essential criteria:
- Educated to a minimum of HND/Degree level in a relevant engineering discipline, along with a minimum of 1 years’ relevant engineering experience in a Quality department (a successful industrial placement year is acceptable).
- Alternatively, we will consider applications from candidates who have 5 years relevant experience within a Quality role in a production environment.
- Demonstrate practical experience in the following: Working within a Quality assurance role & Knowledge of quality improvement processes.
- Have experience of using continuous improvement & problem solving techniques (e.g. DMAIC, 6Sigma, PFMEA, 8D).
- Be computer literate with a good working knowledge of MS Office packages.
- Be able to read and interpret engineering drawings and standards.
The ideal candidate will also meet the following desirable criteria:
- Knowledge of various assembly methods, paint processes and hydraulic contamination management
- Previous supervisory experience
