Joining the R&D team, the objective of this Quantum Photonics Engineer role contributes significantly to the advancement of quantum technology.
Your work will progress the early years of commercial quantum computing, putting technology in the hands of industry for the first time.
Specifically you'll work on integrated single-photon generation with integrated optical components. Free-space quantum optics experiments, photonic quantum computer installation, and collaborations with scientists and engineers across Europe.
The environment you join will feel like a start-up. That means fast progress, little bureaucracy, organic learning opportunities from new challenges associated with innovation efforts.
This might attract you because:
- The technology you;ll contribute to is at the leading edge of photonics & quantum
- The project work is challenging with high-tech problems requiring new ideas and innovation. Which presents some truly unique learning opportunities
- You'll surround yourself with people who have their own specialist knowledge to learn from
The day-to-day tasks might include:
- Working with colleagues who are experts in quantum information and control systems so that together, you can design integrated single-photon sources
- Project ownership and project management opportunities
- Experimenting with coincidence measurement, quantum dot characterisation, Hong-Ou Mandel interference and boson sampling
To perform in this role, we expect that:
- You'll have studied up to Ph.D level in a highly relevant applied sciences subject. The closer to photonics, optics or quantum the better to bring the deep understanding required to advance this technology
- Working in an optical lab with lasers, photodiode arrays and free-space optics is a familiar and comfortable environment for you
- Ring resonators, MZI's, beam splitters, waveguide coupling geometry and all very familiar chip-integrated photonic components knowledge of yours
- Spontaneous four wave mixing, Chi3 process physics, coincident, photon interference and all familiar quantum optics knowledge
