This position offers you an exciting opportunity to work in a pivotal role within the Rolls-Royce Submarines Industry. Within the Analytical Engineering business unit, you will work within the Radiation Physics, Shielding and Criticality team to design and analyse radiation shield solutions, support criticality safety analysis and provide leading radiation physics advice to component and work package owners across the Submarines enterprise.

What you’ll be doing :

You will be accountable for the delivery of delegated major technical work packages to agreed time, quality, and cost.

  • Responsible for the monitoring of progress on task activities and reporting against the baseline plan.
  • Responsible to the group leader for identifying and managing risks and opportunities within the scope of technical work packages.
  • To work in conjunction with, or act as the technical lead, with the DBU specialists and Chief design engineers to maintain technical governance and deliver products that meet the Nuclear Safety Requirements.
  • Responsible for the management, technical supervision and integration of work undertaken by Managed Service Partners and Subcontractors to meet delivery commitments of the delegated projects.
  • To work with the Team Leader to establish commitments, budgets and targets for the delegated projects and to provide regular updates on progress in line with business requirements.
  • Deliver work that is appropriate to discharging the NSRP Technical Authority Role.

  • Academic background with degree in relevant engineering or scientific subject ( MSc, PTNR or equivalent or Chartered Physicist or Engineer - Desirable)
  • Knowledge of Ionising Radiation and Shielding principles.
  • Can demonstrate understanding of radiation transport principles.
  • Understanding of the fission process and reactivity control.
  • Ability to plan, organise and deliver quality work packages to budget and schedule.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of stakeholders via verbal and written forms of communication.

To work for Rolls-Royce Submarines you need to hold a Security Check (SC) clearance without any caveats to that clearance. Rolls-Royce will support the application for Security Clearance if you don’t currently already have this in place.
