Imaging Department

Band  5    £28,407-£34,581 pro rata if part-time

Hours: 37.5 per week, working flexibly across the 24-hour period, 7 days per week.

All MKUH roles will be considered for flexible working.

You will work as part of our friendly team to provide a high quality, responsive diagnostic service delivering excellent patient care in line with our Trust core values. You will be expected to maintain high clinical standards and share this practice with colleagues and students.

You must have excellent communication and organisational skills, a commitment to CPD and a practical knowledge of radiation protection, legislation, and health & safety requirements. A flexible approach to working is required. Above all, patients must be at the forefront of your practice.

We are able to provide rotation through our Interventional and Cardiology suites, alongside our dynamic trauma-acute-and-general x-ray service.

Main duties of the job

Our department supports role extension; we have experienced radiographers reporting the axial & appendicular skeleton, and chest & abdominal images.  

Student radiographers rotate through the department from the University of Hertfordshire and apprentice radiographers rotate through the department who study at the University of Exeter.

We invite any student radiographer or apprentice due to qualify before September 30th 2024, to apply for this post.

It is an exciting time to join Milton Keynes with plans underway to build a dedicated Imaging Scanning Centre for CT, MRI and Ultrasound within the next 2 years.

Person specification

Qualifications and knowledge

Essential criteria
  • BSc (Hons) Radiography, DCR(D) Diploma of the College of Radiographers or equivalent
  • Health and Care Professions Council Registration
  • Evidence of a sound level of computer literacy (MS Teams, word, outlook, power point and excel)
  • Familiarity with hospital information systems (HIS), radiology information systems (RIS) and picture archiving communications systems (PACS)
  • Knowledge of diagnostic imaging procedures
  • Good understanding of health and safety requirements
  • Sound awareness of data protection, freedom of information and confidentiality issues within NHS
  • Evidence of keeping informed of the current imaging techniques and practices
  • Knowledge of relevant national imaging standards (e.g., IR(ME)R 2017, IRR ’17 and associated codes of practice)

  • To assist less experienced staff & students when in imaging and help attending students in their training and development

  • Keep all records up to date in a clear, accurate and concise manner on a day-to-day basis
  • Professional in appearance and conduct

Specific requirements

Essential criteria
  • Able to perform the duties of the post with reasonable aids and adaptations i.e., see functional requirements of apprentice radiographer)
  • To participate in the departmental shift system including working weekends, evenings, and nights
  • Satisfactory pre-employment checks. Occupational Health and Disclosure and Barring Service clearance and references spanning 3 years
  • Has an acceptable attendance and punctuality record at work
  • Ability to travel to all trust sites
