Role Title Radiological Consequences Analysts
Location Warrington, Derby or Remote Working

We are now recruiting for the exciting role of Radiological Consequences Analysts.
Purpose for the Role
The Radiological Consequences Analyst will be responsible for the assessment of off-site Radiological Consequences for design basis and severe accidents and developing the capability to perform consequence analysis in other interfacing areas (e.g. on-site consequences and dose assessments). This will directly support the development of the Probabilistic Safety Assessment for the RR-SMR.
• Responsible for the development of radiological consequence analysis during severe accident conditions, in line with best practice and to standard policies and processes, to support the substantiation of a nuclear power station design that meet all SMR project requirements.
• Apply rigorous quality assurance processes consistent with nuclear industry requirements to the development of analysis methodologies, models, and tools. Establish verification, validation and uncertainty quantification requirements and ensure they are satisfied through activities such as experimental benchmarking and support to test rig development.
• Technically represent SMR in interactions with ONR for assigned areas of responsibility and support the ongoing licensing process including coordination of responses to RQs/Ros.

Candidate Overview
• Qualified to degree level or equivalent in Physics, Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline
• Chartered Engineer/Physicist with design experience including responsibility for technically leading complex thermal hydraulic analysis programmes.
• Experience delivering severe accident consequence analysis for a nuclear site.
• Sound knowledge of nuclear reactor systems design, operations, etc. including sound knowledge of relevant design codes, including systems engineering.
• Experience in the interpretation of customer specifications and defining and managing engineering requirements.
• Ability to communicate effectively with any audience, quickly establishing credibility and buy-in.
Severe Accident Consequence Analysis Methods:
• Experience of using numerical tools and software
• Experience in performing off-site atmospheric dispersion analysis.
• Experienced in performing public dose assessments.
• Knowledge of the theory of radiation induced health effects in humans and risk quantification in human populations.
• Understanding of the evolving ICRP radiation protection framework/modern computational methods e.g. voxel phantoms
Nuclear Safety Analysis and Safety Cases:
• Probabilistic safety assessment methods
• Design basis fault assessment methods
• UK Safety Case and Regulatory practises
• Severe Accident Phenomena and analysis methods (e.g. the use of accident codes)
Nuclear industry domain knowledge including:
• Pressurised Water Reactor (PWR) design, plant, and behaviour,
• Severe accident systems, phenomena, and chemistry.
• Environmental, Safety, Security and Safeguarding (E3S) regulations and principals (including application of As Low as Reasonably Practicable (ALARP) and Best Available Technique (BAT) principals).
Technical task delivery, including:
• Definition of a project/programme of work.
• Delivery of programme milestones in line with agreed plans and budgets.
• Management of risks.
• Monitoring of progress.
• Technical writing and communication
Pay and benefits
We anticipate a paying salary of between £35,000 to £60,000, a performance related bonus of up to 12.5%, an attractive pension scheme with 12% employer and 6% employee contributions. You will also receive a flexible benefits allowance of £2,200, enabling you to create a bespoke package to suit your needs.
