Job description

Regional Media Officer

We currently have an exciting opportunity for an experienced individual to join a team as a Regional Media and PR Officer. You will join the team working 35 hours per week, on a permanent basis and will be based remotely. In return you will receive a salary of up to £32,894.59 per annum plus excellent benefits.

This role will cover the Northern region of the UK, this will include Scotland, Northern Ireland and North-West England. The role is remote with occasional travel. It is not a requirement for the successful candidate to live within the region, but this would be advantageous.

Since 1927, the charity has helped thousands of cats each year, across the UK. As a community of volunteers, employees, supporters and partners, they’ve improved the lives of millions of cats and transformed the way millions of people see and care for cats.

The Media Team is tasked with generating positive coverage about the charity so they can maintain and enhance their reputation as the UK’s leading feline welfare charity. This includes handling enquiries from journalists and managing campaigns and publicising events such as the National Cat Awards, ensuring the charity achieves the recognition it deserves.

Responsibilities of the Regional Media Officer:

We’re on the lookout for a brilliant media and PR officer to join the team. The successful candidate will have an excellent nose for a story and will be an expert at turning ideas and anecdotes into impactful PR coverage. If you're a savvy communicator with a knack for compelling storytelling, this is your opportunity to make a difference for cats. Responsibilities include:

  • Develop engaging and impactful stories that will generate press coverage, in line with the team’s goals and objectives
  • Lead PR activity to support larger campaigns, employing creative ideas and targeted pitches for optimal media coverage
  • Swiftly and effectively respond to media inquiries, ensuring accurate and on-message information in line with journalist deadlines
  • Identify opportunities within the news agenda to spotlight the charity's initiatives in national media
  • Be part of a proactive and effective press office, nurturing key media relationships
  • Prepare spokespeople for interviews, ensuring clear key messages and objectives.
  • Contribute to the media out-of-hours service on a rotational basis (starting in 2024).

What we’re looking for in a Regional Media Officer:

  • Experience in a press office or journalism environment – essential
  • Confident with Microsoft Office - Word, Excel, Outlook
  • Experience working with Regional Media contacts including news agencies
  • Ability to write campaign evaluation reports
  • Exceptional storytelling abilities and news sense
  • Strong relationship-building skills and collaboration across diverse teams.
  • Quick responsiveness and ability to work efficiently to journalist deadlines.
  • Positive attitude
  • Knowledge of media monitoring software and evaluation.

What’s on offer:

  • Salary of up to £32,894.59 per annum plus excellent benefits
  • Generous annual leave entitlement
  • Life assurance scheme
  • Range of health benefits including private healthcare
  • Employee Assistance Programme
  • and more

Through their values and behaviours the charity helps people see the world through cats’ eyes. Together we can make a difference.
