About this opportunity
Westmorland and Furness Council is looking for a professionally qualified, experienced and skilled officer who will carry out duties associated with the investigation of pollution control / public health complaints (mainly noise but also smoke, odour, light, filthy premises, etc). Other duties will involve air pollution / noise monitoring and collating/distributing information about bathing waters. You will also be expected to undertake other duties from time to time, namely Local Air Pollution Prevention and Control (LAPPC/LAIPPC), air quality assessment and contaminated land issues.
You must have experience of dealing with members of the public and be able to work as part of a team as well as on your own initiative. You will also have excellent IT and written and verbal communication skills.
A qualification in Environmental Protection / Environmental Health, the ability to undertake technical / scientific calculations, experience of working in an enforcement role and / or dealing with the public in difficult or confrontational situations would be an advantage. You must have excellent communication and IT skills.
