The Role

The Reporting Accountant role (FTC) has been established to support the centralised JV and corporate structure function within the Group Reporting team as a backfill for the current post holder who is being seconded to the Finance Transformation project within Unite. The role will report to the Senior JV Reporting Accountant.

Using excellent technical and reporting skills and a desire to deliver first class service to stakeholders, this role will be responsible for month end tasks, Joint Venture (`JV`) management reporting and dealing with technical requests, such as accounting for new JV`s and changes to the corporate structure. The ideal candidate will continually seek to improve the way the finance team operates and uses systems, to enhance the efficiency of the close process and add value to their reporting.

What you`ll be doing

  • Timely completion of quarterly JV reporting tasks, including additional journals, preparing management accounts, explaining movements, and producing balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Managing the internal recharging transfers on a monthly basis for income/cost and turnover rents, including appropriate VAT treatment.
  • Monthly reconciliation of JV recoveries and follow up on queries.
  • Liaising with joint venture/ investment fund finance business partners (`FBPs) to reflect any changes to fund structures in the appropriate reporting period.
  • Accounting for Unite Foundation charity including monthly journal posting, monthly management accounts, quarterly Board reporting, forecasting, budgeting and liaising with the operational team.
  • Ad-hoc tasks, such as working through technical aspects of corporate restructures, securitised debt facilities, and equity related transactions, such as distributions and redemptions.
  • Production of ad-hoc reports as required by stakeholders across the business and cost centre budget holders.
  • Performing monthly tasks in relation to Group fixed assets and depreciation charges - including posting of journals, reconciliations, forecasting and understanding movements and technical treatment.
  • IT Capex/ work-in-progress reconciliation and reporting on a monthly basis.
  • Maintaining the projects ledger, including system uploads and monthly reconciliations to the general ledger.
  • Internal build and development processes including processing monthly recharges and accruals.
  • Other tasks to cover for team members during periods of transformation project work.

What we`re looking for in you

  • Professional accountant, 3+ years post qualified ACA or ACCA accounting qualification.
  • Experience of financial reporting, in a corporate and time pressured environment
  • Excellent IT skills including advanced MS Excel Skills with a good understanding of Lookups and Pivot tables.
  • An ability to understand, interpret and apply JV and group structures.
  • A mentality of continuous improvement.
  • Self-starter who can demonstrate initiative, with the ability to prioritise workloads and to give guidance to less experienced team members.
  • An ability to communicate at all levels and develop good working relationships.
  • Ability to manage multiple demands effectively whilst maintaining high levels of accuracy and attention to detail.
