Job Title: Research Assistant in Neuromuscular Health Department/School: School of Medicine Campus: Derry ~ Londonderry campus Salary: £31,414 - £33,001 per annum Duration: Fixed-term until 14th October 2025 Closing Date: 15 April 2024 Reference Number: 026923 - ABOUT US - We are a university with a national and international reputation for excellence, innovation and regional engagement, making a major contribution to the economic, social and cultural development of Northern Ireland Our core business activities are teaching and learning, widening access to education, research and innovation and technology and knowledge transfer. - THE ROLE - The post holder will join the neuromuscular research team at Ulster University, as part of an exciting new industry-funded project aiming to develop biomarkers and therapeutics for a range of neuromuscular and neurodegenerative conditions. They will be responsible for the support of research and development, using techniques such as cell and tissue culture and a range of molecular biology assays, and will contribute to experimental assays, data collection, analysis and the writing up of written reports. We may create a 12-month waiting list for same or similar roles within the Department / Faculty. The University reserves the right to extend the waiting list across the University if required for certain posts. - ABOUT YOU - The postholder will be required to have: - A Degree in a closely related health or life sciences discipline or related subject (e.g. Personalised Medicine, Molecular & Cellular Biology, Medicine, Genetics, Biology, Biomedical Science, Pharmacy/Pharmaceutical Science, Biochemistry, Epidemiology, Computational Biology). - Experience of practical application of molecular biology assays and/or cell and tissue culture in a relevant setting (e.g. academic, clinical, scientific, or industry). - Evidence of conceptual understanding of molecular assays, molecular diagnostics, molecular pathology, cell and tissue culture, and associated technologies (e.g. from taught courses).
