Job description

Understanding the secretory pathway using chemical screening

The secretory pathway is required for the synthesis and modification of 30% of all cellular proteins and is essential for life. This project will use a chemical biology approach to provide new insights into the machinery and mechanisms of transport in the secretory pathway. The experiments will be performed in mammalian cells and a variety of cell biological and biochemical methods will be used to study secretion. The goal is to identify new chemical modulators of secretion and determine how they work.

The successful applicant will hold a PhD (or equivalent) in one of the biological sciences. Excellent communication skills and previous experience in biochemistry or Cell Biology is essential. Previous experience in studying the secretory pathway or organelle biology is highly desirable.

The post, which is funded by The Leverhulme Trust, is available for up to 3 years full-time from 1 July 2024. Joint supervision will be provided by Dr. Joe Swift, who is also based within FBMH.
