Research Fellow

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Research Fellow, with considerable systematic review expertise to lead a team of academics undertaking a mixed methods Evidence Synthesis, for a fixed term (15 month) project funded by the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) Health Technology Assessment (HTA) Programme. The Evidence Synthesis will identify cost effective education and information interventions for people living with early chronic kidney disease (CKD), including consultation with people managing CKD, their carers and health professionals to expose current practice and co-create research priorities.

The leadership post is based at the University of Salford but provides an excellent opportunity to work collaboratively with the PenARC Evidence Synthesis Team, an expert group based at the University of Exeter. The researcher will lead the synthesis of both qualitative and quantitative evidence to inform the development and implementation of health policy, produce high-quality publications, gaining significant knowledge and guidance, and recognition working alongside leaders in the Evidence Synthesis field. You will also gain experience leading a Study Within a Review (SWAR).

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of academics to undertake a mixed methods synthesis.
  • Lead the design and conduct of systematic reviews to high (publishable) standards and to agreed deadlines, in order to support national health policy development and evaluation, working closely across institutions in Salford and the Evidence Review Facility, within Exeter.
  • Manage the overall review process and act as lead and at times second reviewer, working closely with service topic/content experts (including patients and members of the public), policy customers, and methods experts where necessary.
  • Write up the systematic reviews clearly for a variety of audiences – Department of Health and Social Care, policy makers, NHS, academic (i.e. journal articles), and the general public. To present the findings of the reviews, or the required innovations in review methods, to relevant audiences e.g. at academic conferences or stakeholder events.
  • Coach and support other team members and colleagues in developing their review and research techniques.
  • To lead and project manage the national stakeholder consultation elements within the Evidence Synthesis and organise expert stakeholder/adviser engagement meetings.
