The role
Applications are invited for a Research Fellow position in to work full time on an EPSRC-funded project A Human-Trustable Self-Improving Machine Learning Framework for Rapid Disaster Responses Using Satellite Sensor Imagery. The successful post holder will be based in the Computer Science Research Centre, working with Dr. Xiaowei Gu.
The aim of this project is to catalyze a step-change in artificial intelligence by developing highly innovative explainable ML techniques to automate the building damage assessment processes based on post-disaster high-resolution satellite sensor images.
This is an exciting opportunity to become part of a team of researchers spreading across three academic partners and undertake research on the state-of-the-art Machine Learning and remote sensing research with a focus on explainable artificial intelligence and computer vision.
About you
The post holder must have:
- A PhD or equivalent experience in Computer Science or a related discipline.
- Strong expertise on Machine Learning, computer vision or remote sensing.
- Strong research and analytical skills.
- Proven track record of innovation supported by publications in high ranked journals and conferences.
- Very good written and verbal communication skills.

Please note, it is University Policy to offer a starting salary equivalent to Level 3.6 (£34,980) to successful applicants who have been awarded, but are yet to receive, their PhD certificate. Once the original PhD certificate has been submitted to the local HR Department, the salary will be increased to Level 4.1 (£36,024).
