Job title: Lawyer​

Reports to: Head of Residential​

Main purposes of role

The main purpose of the Residential Conveyancing lawyer will be to conduct a caseload of files for clients providing legal advice, while establishing and maintaining effective and professional relationships. Deploying the full range of legal skills including but not limited to; interviewing, advising, negotiating and drafting. To work alongside colleagues in the department, assisting on sales and directly handling and progressing residential conveyancing matters and transactions, applying legal knowledge to produce solutions which meet clients’ needs and addresses their personal circumstances. Most importantly to further grow your own skills and experience in the field of residential conveyancing.

Required skills, knowledge and experience

1. A proven team player, willing to work under supervision where required, receptive to constructive criticism and happy to work on files alone in areas they are experienced

2. Residential Conveyancing experience i

3. An excellent communicator both written and oral, capable of building a good rapport with clients and colleagues

4. An experienced Residential Conveyancer practitioner with a proven track record in terms of billing, chargeable hours and business development

5. High integrity and high energy; able to demonstrate a high level of customer care and sets quality as a prime objective

6. Fully conversant with Word, Outlook and Excel and used to working with computerised case management systems

7. Committed to keeping clients informed all of the time and dealing with cases, clients and colleagues outside of normal business hours when required

8. A pleasant but assertive manner in dealing with colleagues and clients

Key tasks (not an exhaustive list)

1. Conduct of matters on behalf of clients, including all the work types set out above

2. Assist colleagues with their fee earning work where appropriate (e.g. during bottlenecks and leave periods) and on large residential transactions

3. Participation in business development activities whether on a firm wide, departmental or team basis

4. Financial control of matters through appropriate billing procedures

5. Perform fee earning work accurately, reliably and in accordance with the firm’s quality and risk management procedures

6. Attendance at departmental meetings, leading by example with contributions made at and subsequent to such events

7. Maintain IT skills appropriate to modern legal practice

8. Take responsibility for self-development and keeping up to date with legal developments
