We currently have a vacancy for a full-time Retail Assistant, working in our large Horticulture department. Based primarily in Garden Care, you will also work occasionally in our outdoor Plant Area.
Gates is a family run business, committed to growth and with excellent customer service standards at its core. Set in a beautiful rural location, this large, destination garden centre covers over 13,500m2 of retail displays, offering everything from indoor and outdoor plants, garden care and hardware, homeware, garden furniture and BBQs, pet care, gifts, clothing and much more besides. There is also a large farm shop and two restaurants on site.
The role involves:
- Processing large volumes of stock quickly and efficiently
- Assisting customers with product enquiries and purchases
- Maintaining the appearance of visual displays and department housekeeping
- Delivering an exceptional level of customer service at all times
The ideal candidate will:
- have a friendly personality with an ability to easily engage with and connect with our customers
- be able to recognise and act upon sales opportunities
- enjoy assisting customers with finding solutions to garden care problems
- an interest in gardening and plants is preferred, however experience and knowledge are not necessarily required as full training will be given
- be highly driven, with the ability to see tasks through to completion
- have an eye for detail
- be keen to learn and self-motivated with a can-do attitude
- enjoy working outdoors
- have an ability to work well as part of a large, friendly team
This is a physical role so applicants should possess a good level of fitness. Applicants must also be professional and well-presented and have excellent customer service skills.

This role is full-time, permanent, working four weekdays and alternate weekends, plus bank holidays.
