The Person
First off, retailing will be in your blood. You ll love the day-to-day of it, working with colleagues, giving them your time, offering guidance and support where necessary, leaving them to it when not. You ll be happy leading by example, using performance indicators to get the best from your team, helping customers will be second nature and you ll have a natural flair for all things VM handy as most in-store display and layout is yours to decide. In short, you ll be a great all-rounder, as happy getting stuck in as you are overseeing the more strategic stuff.
Background-wise, it's your skills and personality that are most important but if you ve been in non-food, department stores or home & leisure, fashion or DIY then that d be great, It s a customer focussed business this one, and a business where standards matter.
The Role
All the day-to-day decisions in the store come through you. From setting and managing rotas to ensuring that visual merchandising standards start high and stay there, it ll mostly be for you to keep tabs on. Yes, you report to a Store Manager and yes, they are on hand to support you whenever you need it but that doesn t mean you can t make decisions or make a difference. Obviously, you ll hold keys, manage performance, coach your team, serve customers even jump on the tills if needed. No two days will be the same but that s why you got into retail in the first place right?
