Retail Assistant

We are seeking a dedicated and customer-focused Retail Assistant to join our team at a specialized carpet store in Newport. This position offers the opportunity to engage with customers seeking carpets, rugs, and various wall and floor coverings while providing exceptional service and product expertise.

Key Responsibilities:

• Welcome and assist customers in a courteous manner as they explore our range of carpets, rugs, and wall and floor coverings.

• Provide detailed information about our products, including carpets, rugs, wallpaper, flooring, and other coverings, highlighting features, materials, patterns, and installation options.

• Assist customers in selecting suitable carpet, rug, or covering styles that align with their preferences, decor, and functional needs.

• Process sales transactions accurately using the point-of-sale (POS) system, including handling payments and issuing receipts.

• Maintain organized and visually appealing displays of carpets, rugs, and coverings to showcase a variety of styles, colors, and textures effectively.

• Respond to customer inquiries in person, over the phone, or via email regarding product details, pricing, installation services, and design recommendations.

• Coordinate with the installation team to schedule fittings, deliveries, and installations of carpets, rugs, and coverings for customers.

• Handle customer concerns or complaints professionally, ensuring swift resolution and escalating complex issues to the store manager when necessary.

• Stay informed about industry trends, new product arrivals, and promotions to provide customers with up-to-date information and recommendations.

Qualifications and Skills:

• Previous retail experience, preferably in carpet, rug, or flooring sales.

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

• Knowledge of different carpet and covering materials, patterns, and installation techniques.

• Ability to measure spaces accurately and provide pricing estimates.

• Proficiency in using POS systems and basic computer skills.

• Team player with a positive attitude and a passion for interior design.

• Flexibility to work weekends and holidays as needed.
