We are looking for a Risk Lawyer/Compliance Officer to join my client, a top 150 Law firm, in their Risk & Compliance team. Based in central London, you will be the frontline advisor to fee-earners and business teams on a full range of compliance queries, ensuring the company is compliant with all regulatory requirements whilst driving a culture of continuous improvement across all departments.
What you'll be doing
- Maintain an understanding for the main components of risk affecting a law firm, e.g. SRA Code of Conduct obligations, AML and Data Protection rules and any other relevant legal and regulatory obligations.
- Identify new compliance risks and recommend changes to firm policies and procedures as needed.
- Assist the General Counsel, MLRO, COLP and COFA to monitor and adhere to applicable laws, rules and regulations, including compliance with SRA Code of Conduct and Accounts Rules and internal processes.
- Providing technical advice to the firm’s service lines on data protection matters; and advising on data protection issues arising out of frontline compliance, such as data subject requests, potential data incidents and privacy impact assessments.
- Assist the MLRO on ad-hoc tasks and projects such as contribution to individual AML/CDD queries, the assessment of changes to the AML regulations, internal file reviews and input to the AML policies and procedures.
- Engaging in compliance projects, including insurance renewals, third party supplier screening, IT upgrades.
- Analysing conflict queries escalated by the Client Relations Teams, identifying legal and commercial conflicts, and liaising with fee-earners for resolution as required. Directing the implementation of, and managing, information barriers.
• Substantial legal compliance experience is essential.
• Have passed your SQE Exams and be qualified to practice in the UK.
• Ideally have a minimum of 6 years’ experience within a legal compliance role.
• Knowledge and awareness of regulatory client onboarding obligations including conflicts, client due diligence and anti-money laundering.
