Job summary
Imperial is looking for a Safety, Health, and Environment Compliance Officer to work across our campuses, as we push our teaching, innovation and entrepreneurship to the next level. You will be working with our central Safety team to manage Safety, Health, and Environment internal audits, and other safety activities across the university. As the University expands its footprint and activities, you will help with assurance that all work is being carried out in a safe and managed way. Duties and responsibilities
Working closely with the Safety Deputy Director and Biorisk Manager, and the rest of the Safety Department, you will be planning, conducting, documenting and reviewing internal audits and a variety of other safety activities for university staff, students and researchers at all campuses.
You will be providing legislative, specialist and technical safety advice to staff and external stakeholders.
You will plan and carry out safety audits and inspections of university buildings to ensure that we comply with relevant legislation. You will also facilitate and host enforcing authority visits, supplying documentation where required and addressing any concerns.
Your expertise will be used in investigating accidents and incidents, and in varied tasks such as developing processes and training to address issues highlighted during audits, reviewing and producing Memorandums of Understanding between Imperial College and other partners where buildings and facilities are shared (such as the NHS), and representing the Safety Department at Departmental and other Health and Safety Committees.
Essential requirements
- Educated to degree level or equivalent in a scientific discipline.
- NEBOSH National General Certificate, together with relevant experience in a similar role
- Proven experience in managing large risk-based Health and safety auditing programmes
- Proven experience of conducting complex Health and safety incident investigations
- Proven experience of delivering interactive, engaging training and presentations
- Experience managing Health and safety within operational settings.
- Knowledge of UK Health and safety legislation.
- Proven ability to influence and persuade.
- Ready to take ownership of complex Health and safety issues, driving them to successful completion.
- Proven ability to write reports on complex subjects and generate action plans.
- Ability to understand complex regulations and translate them into College Policy, Codes of Practice and practical guidance.
