What you’ll be doing
Our number one priority at National Highways is – and always will be – safety. As an apprentice Safety, Health and Environment Technician, you’ll play a key role in making sure that our colleagues, road workers and customers get home safe and well.
Working with experienced safety and occupational health professionals, you’ll get involved in supporting a variety of activities to deliver health, safety and wellbeing at National Highways. This includes:
· Advising on safe planning, management and delivery of our day-to-day operations and major projects
· Identifying Health and wellbeing risks to our people and working with the business to remove, reduce and control them
· Implementing safe systems of work and safety management systems
· Inspiring and embedding a safety culture through our ‘Home Safe and Well – Be the Change’ programme
We’ll support you with a comprehensive learning and training programme to develop your skills and knowledge, with plenty of opportunities to apply your learning in the office and out on the network.
You’ll complete a Level 3 qualification, which will open the door to a variety of safety-related careers, or help you qualify for a higher level Health and safety professional apprenticeship.

You can choose any National Highways office location as your preferred base for this apprenticeship, providing you’re willing to travel to our other sites when needed.

· The ability to work effectively with others in a team

You’ll also need to have these essential qualifications:
· Good IT and communication skills
· Minimum of five GCSEs (including English and Maths, at grade C/grade 4 or above)
It is key to know all offers to onto our apprenticeships are subject to satisfactory completion of our pre-employment checks. This includes a Right to Work check, reference check and a DBS criminal record check.
