Job description

As a SHE Advisor, reporting to the SHE Manager, you will be responsible for providing competent and professional safety, health and environmental (SHE) advice and support in a wide range of activities and projects, to support the development of the SHE Management system

Description

They will need to be visible across the business and will be an advocate, providing advice and guidance to the workforce on all SHE matters and be a key influencer in the delivery of the SHE vision within the organisation. Helping to embed the SHE culture, whilst ensuring SHE standards are met.

Needs to Do:

  1. Support the development, maintenance and/or deployment of the SHE management systems (including objectives, processes and assurance) that compliment requirements of the business operational framework and International SHE standards, such as ISO14001, which supports the achievement of organisational goals.
  2. Provide competent and comprehensive SHE advice and support to Managers within the business, enabling them to effectively manage SHE within their area/s of responsibility.
  3. Carry out incident investigations to establish the root cause and to prevent further occurrence. Challenging and escalating concerns and/or unresolved issues. Monitoring the completion of any actions and recommendations made.

  1. Carry out internal audits to ensure that the business is compliant with SHE regulations.
  2. Assist in the creation and review of suitable and sufficient risk assessments and method statements for all areas of the business and from customers and contractors.
  3. Carry out SHE training, such as new starter inductions and tool box talks.
  4. Collaborate with key stakeholders, influencing them to appropriately consider SHE factors during decision making.

Profile

Needs to Know:

  • NEBOSH General certificate or equivalent.
  • NEBOSH Environmental certificate or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 5 years' relevant experience within a similar role and industry.
  • Have a comprehensive and technical understanding of SHE management standards and practices, and relevant HSE regulatory knowledge.
  • Have an in-depth understanding of SHE internal and external best practice and be able to use that knowledge in order to improve operational standards.
  • Be a trained SHE auditor.
  • Use of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

Needs to Be:

  • A confident communicator both written and verbal, adapting your communication style to suit the audience, with a high-level of sensitivity.
  • A problem solver and have the ability to solve problems in a dynamic way, with excellent influencing skills, personal resilience, persistence and determination to see a task through to completion.
  • Able to work to tight deadlines, managing your own workload to achieve them.
  • Able to work under your own initiative and collaboratively and demonstrate integrity, credibility and maturity to gain the confidence and respect of others.
  • Have the ability to develop and maintain strong and effective working relationships, at all levels, both internally and externally.
  • Familiar with the use of SHE management systems and have excellent IT skills, with up to date knowledge Microsoft Office applications and Sharepoint.
  • You will be an ambassador for cultural change within the business, able to influence and promote a positive SHE culture at all levels.
  • Ideal if you have come from a nuclear plant/ industrial sites / power station /heavy machinery aerospace background
