Job description

Are you looking for an exciting role that utilises your experience in safety management in the biological, clinical or pharmaceutical research sector? Do you want to work for a large, complex organisation in a role that allows you to provide advice and guidance across the diverse range of departments that make up this University? Are you keen to extend your knowledge of Biological Safety and compliance in a wide area of research spanning the whole globe and ranging from viruses to toxic red firefish? Then our new Safety Support Assistant role in the Safety Office Biological Safety Section could be just the opportunity you have been looking for.

In this new Biological Safety role, you would provide support to and deputise for the Senior Safety Manager for Biological Safety. As the Safety Support Assistant for Biological Safety, you would join the team of the Biological Safety Section and, in collaboration with the Biological and Clinical School Safety Officers, advise all University departments undertaking biological research on safe working practices and regulatory compliance. You would achieve this by providing up to date guidance, training and specific advice; by auditing and follow-up on incidents; and through effective communication with Biological Safety officers, School safety officers and other research-supporting bodies within the University. The role would also give you the chance to support compliance with the University's Human Tissue Authority (HTA) research licence.

Are you the candidate we need? Do you have experience in biological and/or clinical research health and safety? Are you familiar with biological hazards and suitable control measures, and do you have an awareness of the key regulatory requirements? Can you demonstrate interest or active involvement in workplace safety and compliance? Are you interested in or, do you have experience working under the Human Tissue Act, understanding the role of ethical approval, consent, licencing and storage requirements to achieve compliance? If this sounds like you, our new Safety Support Assistant for Biological Safety position could be just the role for you. To find out more see the further particulars.

Once an offer of employment has been accepted, the successful candidate will be required to undergo a health assessment.
