Required to start September 2024.
Sands School is a small independent secondary day school located in the town of Ashburton in the southern edge of the Dartmoor National Park in Devon. We offer genuinely child-centred teaching in small classes within a democratic ethos that fosters trust, mutual respect and self-directed learning.
We are seeking an experienced administrator with specialist knowledge of Health and Safety or Human Resources to complete our school’s administration team. The Administration team are responsible for managing all aspects of day to day running of the school except Teaching and Learning. The new Administrator would be primarily responsible for the management of either Health and Safety or Human Resources whilst also taking on some further other areas of responsibility. This is an exciting opportunity to work in a close knit team with a large degree of autonomy over your role. As a democratic school, decisions are taken collectively and the role of the Administration team is to inform and advise. Sands alternative approach to education and management means staff have to both fulfil their duty to protect students and the school whilst taking into consideration the needs and views of the community. Good listening skills are a must.
The successful candidate will:
• Have previous experience of Health and Safety or Human Resources management;
• Be highly organised with excellent IT skills;
• Work well independently and as part of a small team.
Previous experience of working in a school environment or a passion for alternative education would be advantageous.
As well as being a responsible adult in the school, you will be a part of the school community and will be expected to engage with and support all our students and to participate in the democratic running of the school through the weekly school meetings.
Sands School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
The successful applicant will be required to apply for an enhanced disclosure (with barred list checks) from the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS). Further details can be found at www.gov.uk/disclosure-barring-service-check.
The post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (ROA) 1974 and Exceptions Order 1975. Applicants will be required to declare spent and unspent convictions and cautions that are not ‘protected’.
All shortlisted applicants will be subject to an online search.
