The City of London Corporation is the governing body of the Square Mile, but their work goes beyond that of a local authority and their impact echoes far beyond these boundaries. They are dedicated to a vibrant and thriving City, but their work contributes to a diverse and sustainable London as well as a globally successful UK.
In addition to the usual services provided by a local authority, they run their own Police Force, the nation's Central Criminal Court, maintain five London Bridges and are the London Port Health Authority for the river Thames. They also have responsibility for food markets, over 11,000 acres of green spaces across London, and cultural institutions such as the Barbican Centre. The City Bridge Trust, their charitable funder, has awarded 7,500 grants totaling £350 million to charities supporting Londoners so far.
Over the last year, the finance team has been through a huge transformation programme, focusing on modernising and improving the support they are giving the Corporation. They are now recruiting the final few roles to continue this transformation journey, improve governance and support key areas across the Corporation.
The Senior Accountant will work in the Capital and Project team building, relationships with key stakeholders across the business and ensuring the provision of high-quality financial expertise and advice to aid with decision making. With a focus on improving the collation and presentation of regular monitoring and budgetary information to inform the Capital Strategy.
They will provide technical capital accounting advice and develop financial models to enable The Corporation to manage the funding of the capital programme and close the accounts promptly at year-end. The role will manage up to 3 people and will be expected to contribute to the development of an innovative, high performance and continuous improvement culture. This role will also contribute to the financial risk management process, making a significant contribution towards reporting financial risks.
To be suitable for the role at Grade E (£43,360 - £51,530), you need to be a part-qualified accountant with a good knowledge of capital accounting, ideally in a public sector setting. The ability to translate complex financial information to senior stakeholders to aid decision-making is also essential.
To be suitable for the role at Grade F (£52,530 - £62,390), you must be fully qualified with significant experience in capital accounting in a public sector setting. As well as being a professional lead, providing financial expertise to customers and developing an innovative, high performance and continuous improvement culture.
