We are looking for a Senior Assistant Registrar (Burials), to join our experienced team at Coychurch Crematorium.
The position is key in supporting the Bereavement Services Manager and Registrar in day to day management, registration, administration and bereavement advice duties to ensure an efficient and effective Bereavement Service is delivered in a manner which fully meets the needs of the varied service users.
We are seeking to appoint an experienced person with the special personal qualities required to assist in the delivery of the Bereavement Service and the Council’s statutory obligations and responsibilities in relation to the Local Authorities Cemeteries, while also deputising and covering the duties of the Crematorium’s Senior Assistant Registrar (Cremations).
You will need to demonstrate previous experience of detailed administrative and financial procedures relating to burials and cremations, together with a customer focused outlook, as you will be responsible for daily bookings, administration of documentation and associated databases and plans in relation to graves and memorials, registration operations and financial work in accordance with relevant statutory requirements and the Council’s financial procedure rules.
Enhanced interpersonal skills and developed IT skills including Microsoft Office packages will be required. With an aptitude for accuracy and attention to detail, you will be able to demonstrate excellent organisation skills and be able to work under pressure and on your own initiative, using both manual records and specialist computerised software packages.
Experience of working in a bereavement environment is required, as you will be responsible for ensuring excellent customer care within the administration/registration team. This will include liaising with funeral directors, clergy, memorial masons, public and other council colleagues in relation to the functions of the service area, including advising the bereaved, on the various services and memorial options provided by the Bereavement Services. You will require good communication skills, with a sympathetic and understanding manner, as you will have daily contact with members of the public who may be distressed following bereavement.
You will be a team player with a tactful approach to problem solving and have a positive attitude towards the provision of a high quality service that meets nationally recognised standards and is delivered in a caring and sensitive manner. A flexible approach to work is essential, as you will be fully office based at Coychurch Crematorium, working core hours Monday to Friday, with a requirement to work additional hours according to the needs of the service.
