Senior Associate / Legal Director Commercial

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a Senior Associate / Legal Director with commensurate experience to join our clients' award-winning international, commercial law firm where you will be part of their extremely busy and fast moving non-contentious commercial public and private sector practice based in Manchester.

This role requires in-depth experience of subsidy control and publicprocurement advisory and has a client base spanning a broad spectrum of sectors - the public sector, the private sector, and the third sector, which makes for a very varied and rewarding mix of work.  

Responsibilities

• Handle compliance issues under the Subsidy Control Act 2022 for both public sector grant providers and recipients.
• Offer trusted commercial advisory services to clients, potentially leading to specific projects.
• Collaborate within multidisciplinary project teams, spanning various sectors such as regeneration, infrastructure, and telecommunications.
• Provide non-contentious legal advice on public procurement matters, supporting public sector clients.
• Offer strategic advice and support under the Public Contracts Regulations 2015 and Utility Contracts Regulations 2016.
• Support litigator colleagues with technical aspects of procurement law, while non-contentious elements are managed.
• Manage commercial supply-chain contracts, distribution terms, franchise agreements, and contract manufacturing.
• Deliver regular training sessions and articles to clients and colleagues, especially regarding upcoming changes in the UK procurement regime

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Law or equivalent qualification
• Demonstrates comprehension of legislation including: Subsidy Control Act 2022, Public Contracts Regulations 2015, Procurement Act 2023, The Health Care Services (Provider Selection Regime) Regulations
• Strong commercial acumen and attention to detail
• Extensive experience advising public sector clients on procurement laws and counseling across sectors
• Motivated to devise practical solutions for clients' commercial issues
• Proficient in drafting and negotiating documentation
• Understanding of clients' needs and expectations
• Expertise in ensuring public procurement compliance
• Commitment to delivering excellent service and maintaining high standards
• Capable of working independently and within a team
• Effective time management and task prioritization
• Exceptional legal and commercial research skills
• Proactive involvement in business development
• Adherence to guidelines and procedures

Desirable:

• Understanding of legislation such as Data Protection Compliance, Unfair Terms, and Intellectual Property Applications in commercial contexts
• Proven track record in business development, including delivering updates, training, and articles
• Skillful in establishing and nurturing professional relationships
• Exceptional persuasion and influence abilities
• Effective communication in challenging situations
• Strong listening skills and openness to feedback
• Experience in mentoring and supporting junior colleagues

Salary:

• £60,000 - £140,000 Depending on experience
• Monday to Friday, 09:00 - 17:30 (37.5 hours per week)
