We are in search of a Senior Billing Operations Analyst, a pivotal role focused on the billing for our three core transmission charges – Transmission Network Use of System (TNUoS) charges, Balancing Services Use of System (BSUoS) charges, and Connection charges.
This key analytical position is responsible for collection up to £9bn in revenue for the entire electricity industry. Apart from managing current Billing Operations, this role demands strategic foresight to ensure our processes evolve in alignment with the changing charging methodologies.
This position goes beyond a junior-level, transactional capacity; it requires an individual with a keen analytical mindset and the ability to interpret contracts and understand their implications on billing applications. The ideal candidate should also be adept at managing customer interactions, providing exemplary service while navigating complex billing inquiries.
This senior analyst position offers the opportunity to significantly contribute to our net zero objectives by ensuring our billing and charging strategies are future-proofed and aligned with the evolving energy landscape.
The role is based in Warwick, and we continue to offer hybrid working from office and home. We are open to full time and part time applicants, as well as flexible working arrangements.
About you
We do not expect you to have an energy background. Instead, we are seeking individuals with a genuine passion for learning, coupled with natural professional curiosity and an eagerness to understand the electricity transmission system. In addition, you will need to demonstrate:
- Experienced professional capable of managing a small team, demonstrating a proven ability to guide team members to achieve their maximum potential.
- Exceptional analytical skills, with a proficiency in analysing large data sets using Excel, Power BI, or similar tools.
- Outstanding communication abilities, with the experience to generate and convey detailed written reports and presentations to a diverse audience.
- Established success in building strong internal and external relationships, alongside robust negotiation and influence skills.
- The capability to manage various priorities against tight deadlines, adapting to organizational changes as required.
- Understanding of legal frameworks and transmission charging regulations; direct experience in the energy or utilities sector is a plus, but we are open to candidates from other industries who demonstrate the requisite skills and mindset.
What you'll do
From day one, you will be involved in delivering value for consumers, mainly by:
- Precisely calculate and process all charges and invoices, complying with Codes, Licence requirements, and adhering to SOX and other regulatory controls.
- Cultivate and enhance customer relationships to maintain high satisfaction levels and offer prompt, transparent responses to queries.
- Perform sophisticated data analysis to support business operations and address requests for charging information.
- Oversee a team of Charging Analysts, with line management responsibilities for each charge type.
- Collaborate closely with finance and transmission owners, ensuring cohesive operations and strategic alignment.
What you'll get
A competitive salary of circa £55,000 -60,000 – dependent on capability.
As well as your base salary, you will receive a bonus based on personal and company performance, 26 days annual leave as standard and a competitive contributory pension scheme where we will double match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 12%.

Becoming the National Energy System Operator
In Summer of 2024, the ESO will transition to becoming the National Energy System Operator, or NESO for short. Previously denoted as the Future System Operator (or FSO), the new National Energy System Operator will be the independent body responsible for planning Great Britain’s electricity and gas networks and operating the electricity system.
The ESO, including all of its existing roles, will be at the heart of the new National Energy System Operator. As NESO, we will build on our existing roles, capabilities, and ways of working significantly to create an organisation the energy system and its users’ need. Our new capabilities will enable us to look across vectors, including electricity, natural gas and hydrogen, and crucially consider the trade-offs between them.
The organisation will be set up as a public corporation with its own Board of independent directors, with complete operational independence from government, the regulator and any and all commercial interest. As the ESO are today, NESO will be licenced and regulated by Ofgem through price control agreements and obligated to identify optimal solutions to system operations and planning in the most sustainable, affordable and secure way for all.
