Job description

Summary

Historic England have a fantastic opportunity for you to join us as our Senior Building Conservation Advisor. This role can be based out of any of our national offices - Newcastle, York, Manchester, Birmingham, Cambridge, Swindon, Bristol, Portsmouth or London, inclusive with hybrid working.
The Technical Conservation Team in the National Specialist Services Department specialises in the conservation of buildings, structures and landscapes. We set standards and provide specialist technical services and strategic leadership on the technical aspects of the care, repair, maintenance and adaptation of the historic built environment. We do this by developing and promoting evidence-based technical policy and best practice and by providing specialist guidance within Historic England, to the English Heritage Trust through a shared service agreement, and to the wider sector.
Salary Range:
GBP39,364 - GBP45,000 pro-rata dependant on location and experience.
National salary range:
GBP39,364 - GBP41,331 pro-rata
Greater London + salary range:
GBP42,380 - GBP45,000 pro-rata
What you will be doing:
As a member of the Building Conservation & Geospatial Survey Team in Technical Conservation you will provide specialist technical advice on appropriate methods of conservation, repair, maintenance and adaptation of the historic built environment to a range of audiences (including Historic England staff, the English Heritage Trust, conservation professionals and non-professionals) using a variety of media.
We need you to help to develop and promote technical standards and guidance on appropriate methods of conserving the historic built environment by commissioning and managing research projects, carrying out and organising specialist training as well as producing and disseminating technical advice and guidance for a range of audiences.
Please note:
the role requires regular travel to sites not serviced by public transport. the role may require visiting/inspecting sites which is likely to require climbing scaffolding and negotiating confined space (e.g. Church roofs, etc.). What we are looking for:
Degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant subject or equivalent work experience. Extensive, appropriate & wide-ranging post-qualification experience Experience of writing reports, guidance and articles Practical experience of a range of historic building repair methods Detailed knowledge of traditional building materials & systems Strong written communication skills Proven ability to work with wide range of internal & external partners We are an equal opportunity employer which values diversity and inclusion.
