The Ffestiniog and Welsh Highland Railways are two of the UK's most popular heritage railways, located in the heart of picturesque Snowdonia. Spooner's, our main catering outlet situated on Harbour Station in Porthmadog, is at the centre of our operations, delivering a high level of service from breakfast through to evening meals.
We are looking for an experienced chef to build and lead the dedicated kitchen team at Spooner’s. This will be a hands on role, the successful candidate will be expected to lead by example in the preparation and cooking of meals to order and will run the day to day operations of our busy kitchen, maximising profit and improving food service standards.

- Negotiable competitive salary in the range £28,000 - £30,000 per annum
- Permanent, full time position to start March 2024

We are looking for an inspirational motivator to lead the team whilst coming up with an innovative menu using fresh, local produce wherever possible to appeal to a wide customer base. Candidates should have proven experience of working as a chef in a managerial or supervisory role, this position offers the right candidate an excellent opportunity to step up to running their own kitchen.

- Proven experience of working in the food/catering industry
- Excellent food preparation and presentation skills
- Proven leadership and interpersonal skills
- The ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
- The ability to work on own initiative and to motivate and lead by example
- Pro-active in problem solving
- Thorough knowledge and understanding of food and kitchen hygiene
- A qualification in Food Safety is desirable, training will be provided if required
- The ability to speak Welsh would be an advantage as would knowledge of the railways, their passengers and the local economic market.
The successful candidate will thrive working in a fast-paced, buzzing environment. Candidates must be flexible and able to work shifts over days, evenings and weekends.
