Job description

As a communication professional, you’ll be the leader who develops and executes colleague communications and engagements to help increase employee sentiment and secure a cultural shift.

You’ll lead internal engagement campaigns, write and deliver strategic communications across a variety of channels, and work effectively across Functions to advise and influence key stakeholders to ensure optimal outcomes are achieved in line with Nationwide’s Blueprint. You’ll lead a small team to develop and deliver engaging communication strategies. You will be part of our Colleague Engagement team and work alongside, strategy and insights, digital production, and event professionals.

This role is within the Customer Brand and Engagement Function, which is responsible for building and maintaining Nationwide’s brand and reputation both for customers and colleagues.

This is a 12-month Secondment (internal) / 12-month Fixed Term Contract (external) within the Colleague Engagement team who strive to increase all-employee engagement, drive advocacy, and build commitment to Nationwide’s purpose, strategy, and underpinning priorities. They proactively inform colleagues; ensure they’re connected to the needs of customers and act as ambassadors of Nationwide’s unique position as a mutual.

What you’ll be doing

You’ll lead a team of communication experts, fostering a culture of collaboration, growth, and development.   

You’ll be an exceptional writer, focussed on storytelling and delivering consistent and impactful messages that drive Colleague Engagement and advocacy.

You’ll lead and deliver key internal Colleague Engagement communications and campaigns that focus on a commercial or customer centric lens, linked to Nationwide’s Blueprint.

You’ll lead and implement an internal channel strategy, aligned to Nationwide’s strategic objectives, that articulates the appropriate approach to engage colleagues with key communications and campaigns.

You’ll use insight to continuously enhance the colleague experience across our core channels, such as the intranet and all employee email communications. You’ll monitor and address feedback to continuously improve colleague sentiment.  

About you

  • Strong experience in developing and implementing colleague communication strategies and campaigns to drive engagement and cultural change.
  • Strong experience in creating and tailoring impactful, and insight led communications that align with Nationwide’s strategic objectives and internal tone of voice.
  • Strong track record of working collaboratively across Functions, demonstrating the ability to engage and influence key stakeholders up to Board level.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present information in spoken, written or visual form to a variety of audiences.
  • Strong track record of leading and implementing a strategic channel strategy to communicate a consistent narrative across all points of the colleague journey.
  • A brilliant writer with the ability to story tell.
  • A trusted and passionate team player who is dedicated to driving brilliant outcomes for colleagues.
