About the team
Our Environment Group is made up of highly qualified individuals with extensive experience in Water, Geotechnics, Contaminated Land, Ecology, Heritage, Flood Risk, Air Quality and Acoustic disciplines. The Environment Group works either as part of multi-disciplinary BWB project teams or independently for a range of key clients. We provide timely and cost-effective ground consultancy services to the development and property sector on projects of any type or size.
The Water Service forms part of the Environment Group and is comprised of qualified engineers and environmental consultants with specific experience in flood risk, drainage, hydraulic modelling and environmental planning/engineering disciplines.
What you’ll be doing
- The role typically entails the delivery of hydrology, hydraulic modelling, and flood risk assessments as well as input into production of environmental statements.
- Working on projects covering a range of client sectors (private developers and public bodies), and scales (plot scale to NSIPs), and covering pre-planning to construction.
- Taking a lead on project management, including workload supervision, resource planning and financial administration.
- Developing innovative solutions to complex flooding problems, for example optioneering and watercourse diversions.
- Providing solutions to technical problems and input to provide factual and interpretative reports throughout the lifecycle of a project.
What you’ll bring
- Knowledge of the National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF) as well as flood risk and drainage policy in the UK
- Proven track record in project management, delivering projects to scope, programme, and budget.
- Skilled in the use of hydraulic modelling software packages such as Flood Modeller Pro and TUFLOW. Experience in Infoworks ICM beneficial but not essential.
- Experience in hydrological analysis using Flood Estimation Handbook techniques and associated software packages, such as ReFH2 and WINFAP.
- Enthusiasm for mentoring junior team members and sharing knowledge and experience with others.
- Experience in the production of Environmental Statement chapters and knowledge of the Water Framework Directive will be of benefit.
- Skills and knowledge in drainage strategy and Sustainable Drainage Systems is desirable.
- Strong capability in using GIS software (QGIS) and the Microsoft Office suite. Experience in using Civils 3D would be beneficial but not essential.
- The ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships with colleagues throughout the Company, clients, and suppliers.
