A Senior Design Engineer - Overhead Line (OHL), reporting to Lead Design Engineer for Circuits, is responsible for developing and delivering engineering solutions from feasibility to detailed engineering design for networks projects (33 & 132kV) including designs for projects, innovation, effective technical support, advice, coaching and input throughout the lifecycle of a portfolio of projects.
Senior Design Engineers take ownership of projects of greater value and complexity within the portfolio whilst managing/supervising and developing future talent within the department or project team.
What you'll be doing
As a Senior Design Engineer, you will:
Technically lead in the development of pre-contract design and delivery of projects, focusing on design, construction, operation and maintenance of OHL systems and other associated equipment.
Promote health, safety, quality and environmental compliance and continuous improvement.
Assess engineering documentation, feasibility and compliance with client requirements and support the preparation of accurate budgets for new projects.
Recommend construction and outage programmes where required in relation to OHL circuits.
Prepare basic and detailed engineering specifications for OHL system designs and costs for high value, complex or business critical projects.
Drive resolution of statutory, land or other consents regarding OHL routes.
Provide technical assessment of tender submissions and reporting recommendations to client.
Define OHL equipment requirements for input to System Construction Authorisation (SCA), Project Technical Specifications and BETTA documentation
Prepare and/or review OHL drawings and technical specifications for construction, procurement or other stakeholders.
Ensure specifications, OHL system designs, equipment and construction practices are in accordance with current legislation, policies and operational requirements.
Lead the technical resolution of site/construction OHL related issues and provide support by analysing common faults and preventing re-occurrence.
Preparation of project quality documentation following all SPEN and client quality processes and provide and meet deliverables for PQPs.
Drive industry best practice and technological advances within the project team/department. Including evaluating and applying new ideas', technical developments, new equipment, new materials and/or alternative-working methods to provide cost savings, efficiencies and improved safety.
Contribute to training needs assessment for new products or similar and the development and delivery of technical, operational and safety packages for such products.
Liaise across global multi-disciplinary engineering teams to provide end to end integrated solution.
What you'll bring
To be successful, you will have:
Degree in and engineering discipline or equivalent experience.
Experience using PLS-CADD software.
Proven significant experience and knowledge in a responsible position in the area of high voltage OHL networks and associated equipment.
The ability to implement, apply and promote CDM and Health & Safety best practice in a design environment.
Good inter-personal and communication skills and the ability to form effective working relationships with other individuals, departments and businesses.
The ability to represent departments or project teams regarding OHL engineering issues, decisions, standards, or industry best practice.
