You will partner with other teams, including the software development and IT operations teams enabling the delivery of high-quality software products by implementing continuous integration, continuous deployment, and infrastructure-as-code practices.

The UK Bank is undertaking a significant technology modernisation programme, in this role you will make an invaluable contribution to this by providing tools, processes and expertise to support the delivery of new software products.

The ideal candidate will be an evangelist of DevOps practice who will bring a best of breed approach to support the IT modernisation programme. You will spend significant time partnering with technology teams and senior managers with the potential to promote a culture of shared responsibility for system reliability and performance.

As a senior member of the team, you will draw on your technical and leadership experience to mentor other team members.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Implement and manage Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) pipelines to automate software build, test, and deployment processes to support rapid and reliable releases.

  • Contribute to the adoption of modern software delivery practices using cloud native technologies to manage and scale applications efficiently.
  • Advocate best practices for code branching, merging, and repository management.
  • Design and implement observability capabilities including robust monitoring, alerting, and logging solutions enabling the tracking of system performance, detection of issues, and proactive troubleshooting.
  • Monitor and optimize system performance, identifying bottlenecks and collaborating with developers to resolve issues.
  • Coordinate and manage the technical aspects of software releases, post-release monitoring, and documentation updates.
  • Ensure appropriate backup, disaster recovery, and failover strategies are in place to ensure business continuity and high availability of applications and services.
  • Maintain detailed documentation of infrastructure configurations, processes, and troubleshooting guides.
  • Mentoring and support of other team members.

Ideal Candidate

Research (by Harvard University) shows that women are particularly likely to second guess themselves and not apply - so if you are worried you don't meet all the criteria, get in touch anyhow and let us do the worrying…

  • Recent strong experience in DevOps practices, including developing CI/CD pipelines, automation, and infrastructure-as-code, preferably in the banking or financial services sector.
  • Proficient in the use of scripting and programming languages (e.g. Bash, Python, PowerShell) for automation.
  • Significant exposure to CI/CD pipeline tooling (e.g. TeamCity, Azure DevOps, Jenkins etc).
  • Knowledge of configuration management tools (e.g. Ansible, Puppet, Chef).
  • Experience working with containerisation, orchestration and serverless technologies (e.g. Docker, Kubernetes, Azure Functions).
  • Experience supporting java processes in a Linux environment.
  • Detailed knowledge of and experience using cloud platforms and services (e.g. AWS, Azure, Google Cloud Platform).
  • Experience in the use management of version control systems (e.g. Git) and collaboration tools.
  • Good understanding of networking concepts and security practices in cloud environments.
