Job description

An exciting opportunity to join a market-leading, global, industrial supply and engineering business leading as a Senior Electrical Engineer within a Central Discipline Engineering team

  • What is the role?

  • This is an exciting opportunity to provide detailed focused electrical reliability support to the ongoing operation and continuous improvement of all company production sites as well as engineering facilities on customer sites in the UK & Ireland region
  • You will investigate, assess, scope, and deliver Electrical Engineering solutions for site support activity. Support & conduct independent fault finding and problem resolution of high complexity, selecting and applying existing solutions and methodologies and innovation as appropriate
  • RCFA studies
  • Asset assessments & asset management function to manage obsolescence and maintain safe & serviceable plant and equipment
  • Undertake safety & reliability assessments at sites at a suitable frequency to ensure compliance with internal standards and general legislation
  • Provide specifications and scope of work for projects and initiatives.
  • You will deliver Electrical Engineering solutions (projects, initiatives) as assigned personally or through a matrix of other company engineers, technical and administrative staff and contractors. Have direct line management authority & deliver through these & indirect resources by providing coaching, mentoring and performance feedback to the wider electrical family
  • Provide expert technical support for problem solving and troubleshooting at RUI production sites
  • You will also provide disciplined electrical support for projects. Responsible at times for the co-ordination of resource of electrical projects
  • Act as Technical Authority for electrical design & installation, including low & high voltage
  • Manage commercial outsourcing arrangements for the Electrical department & own the contract relationships between all reliability based outsourced electrical Engineering labour for external staff in the electrical reliability function
  • You will assist site management in the preparation of major plant overhaul schedules and work content. To supervise maintenance work undertaken by Branch maintenance technicians and external contractors
  • You will at times be the first point of call for significant, escalated issues and expected to develop plans, assemble suitable and appropriate resource and manage resolution to conclusion, including regular updates to stakeholders and advising on return of process capability. This will sometimes necessitate travel at short notice to the affected site(s) where the coordination of resolution, and a hands-on approach is most appropriate
  • Collaborate with other discipline engineering and functions to utilise all available resources and explore innovation to develop and achieve optimised solutions to all aspects of production and customer supply
  • Support fault finding on large, multi-MW synchronous motors and excitation systems
  • Furthermore, you will identify opportunities & support upgrade of old, unsupported, and obsolete equipment with modern, efficient alternatives
  • You will keep abreast of technology advancements, evaluating and recommending new technology to increase efficiency, safety and productivity
  • And finally, you will act as design authority for high voltage Electrical Engineering and low voltage Electrical Engineering

What are we looking for?

  • You possess a degree, or equivalent Electrical Engineering qualifications
  • You also have excellent problem solving and analytical skills
  • Good communications skills and the ability to work in multi-disciplinary teams
  • You are an experienced High Voltage (HV) Authorised Person (AP)
  • You have experience of diagnosing problems with HV machines & equipment and managing the process of engaging external service providers and collaborating to achieve suitable resolution
  • You have a good, working knowledge of electrical project management and ability to support all aspects to lead to a successful conclusion
  • You are experienced at conducting root cause analysis and confidently investigating issues and advising of remedial actions
  • In addition, you are experienced at safely managing change and utilising formalised MOC processes (EMOC)
  • Knowledge of electrical design calculation methods and simulation tools (e.g. ETAP & AMTECH)
  • You are able to respond to, and travel to sites in UK and Ireland at short notice and manage strategic resolution strategies. Approximately 30% of the time may be spent at Company facilities and/or support functions to successfully execute the role
