The role
As a Senior Employee Relations Specialist, you'll have a role that's out of the ordinary. You will take a lead role in managing complex Employee Relations cases and settlement negotiations, as well as coaching the team operating within a dynamic, agile and changing workplace within a very supportive and driven team.
Day to day, you'll be tasked with providing commercially focused and pragmatic advice across varying disciplines, such as: absence management, flexible working, disciplinaries, grievances, performance management, employee welfare and much more in a highly unionised environment.
- Provide central governance and guidance for change programmes and consultation programmes such as TUPE and restructuring ensuring policies and procedures are adhered to.
- Provide advisory guidance and coaching on Employment Law policy to enable managers to deliver good people management practices, ensuring consistent and fair decisions and legally compliant processes
- Develop and maintain a good working knowledge of relevant employment law, legislation and best practice in order to carry out the role to the highest level.
- Lead on complex or high risk cases
- Develop management capability on handling and dealing with Employee Relations activity through coaching and advice
This role is full time - 36 hours and will be based on site at Devonport Royal Dockyard with hybrid working from home arrangements.
Essential experience of the Senior Employee Relations Specialist:
- Have prior experience of working autonomously as the Employee Relations expert within a complex global organisation
- Have an excellent understanding and knowledge of Employee Relations, employment law and relevant legislation, with an awareness of the importance of keeping up to date.
- Have current working experience of operating in a unionised environment
- Be commercially and data driven, with a pragmatic and innovative approach to ER whilst delivering proactive direction and solutions, independently and collectively
- Be capable to immerse yourself in company policies and procedures; specifically, HR policies, contracts of employment and their practical application.
Qualifications for the Senior Employee Relations Specialist:

The successful candidate must be able to achieve BPSS security clearance for this role.
