Full Time 37 hours per week** and Part time 18.5 hours per week

Permanent

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Healthcare Support Worker to join the Outpatient Department. Duties will include assisting trained staff in delivering care to patients and participate in the smooth running of clinics, both for local and visiting consultants, in the outpatient’s department.

Some of the key duties of this role include chaperoning patients during clinics, helping with some basic preparation of patients for consultant treatment, carrying out NEWs based observations/ECG and blood sampling to assist the pre-operative nurse, taking visual acuity recordings/checking eye pressures prior to ophthalmology clinics, setting up procedure trays for minor procedures, cleaning of specialised equipment and assisting with documentation within the department for specimens.

The post holders will have an SVQ 3 in Health & Social Care or be working towards this qualification; demonstrable evidence of competence through working experience within a healthcare setting would be considered.

For further information please contact Susan Macleod, Senior Nurse, on email: susan.macleod2@nhs.scot

This post is subject to a PVG Scheme Record

**Starting from 1 April 2024, the working week for NHS Agenda for Change workers in Scotland will be reduced. Full-time hours will be reduced from 37.5 to 37 hours, and part-time staff will get a pro-rata reduction in their working hours without losing any earnings.

Although NHS Orkney will implement this change, it may not be possible to transition fully from 1 April. Therefore, there may be some areas in the organisation where implementation may take longer. If the department cannot safely accommodate the reduced hours from 1st April, you may be required to work 37.5 hours per week (pro rata for part-time staff) until the department can meet the requirements without impacting patient safety. Of course, you will be remunerated accordingly.

NHS Orkney is committed to fully implementing the 37-hour working week across all areas as soon as it is safe to do so.
