Job description

Salary and Grade: SEO (Inner London) £42,716 - £48,068

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced insight professional to join the Behavioural Science and Insights Unit (BSIU) within the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA). We are looking to appoint a Senior Insight Manager who is passionate about applying social and market research to help tackle public health threats and is committed to improving health outcomes for all, particularly the most vulnerable within society.

The UKHSA was launched in October 2021 and is responsible for protecting every member of every community from the impact of infectious diseases, chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear incidents and other health threats. We provide intellectual, scientific, and operational health protection and health security leadership at national and local level, as well as on the global stage. UKHSA has grown out of lessons from the pandemic and exists to ensure that major health crises, both foreseen and unexpected, are avoided or managed effectively. Our work has huge variety and scope to make a real difference to the lives of millions of people.

The BSIU is at the forefront of understanding attitudes and behaviours relating to public health. It is responsible for generating insight to inform the evidence base for strategic decision making and policy development, service design and delivery, for different teams across UKHSA. The role of Senior Insight Manager within the BSIU is to bring to life the experiences and voices of public and stakeholders in compelling ways, using insight from market research and behavioural science, internal and external data, feedback from stakeholders and intermediaries, and other relevant sources.

As a Senior Insight Manager, you will report to an Insight Lead within the team and provide day-to-day management of insight work to support delivery of UKHSA’s strategic priorities, as set out in the 3-year corporate plan. You will work with the Insight Leads within the team to deliver research projects for the BSIU and stakeholders within UKHSA. You will synthesise findings from existing research and evidence, as well as commission new primary research, and use this to provide strategic, evidence-based advice to internal stakeholders on public behaviours and attitudes in relation to health issues across the full range of UKHSA’s remit.

In this role you will work across a range of methodologies and research approaches including traditional and innovative qualitative and quantitative methods, as well as designing and delivering primary research via the UKHSA’s People’s Pulse community panel - a standing panel of c10,000 members of the public willing to help the UKHSA with its various research and consumer insight needs.

Based at UKHSA Canary Wharf - Hybrid working available.

*Please be aware that this role can only be worked from within the UK and not overseas. Relocation expenses are not available.*

This will include working with qualitative and quantitative research suppliers with whom we have call-off contracts, as well as working with our People’s Pulse panel platform provider to ensure the smooth running of panel projects and to maintain a high level of member engagement.
  • Analysing and checking data and drawing out insight from multiple sources - panel and non-panel surveys, qualitative research, operational and population data - to deliver timely and actionable insights to inform strategic priorities, decision-making and service improvements.
  • Developing and delivering appropriate outputs for data collected through panel and non-panel activities (e.g., dashboards, reports, presentations) to meet the needs of stakeholders.
