Main Areas of Responsibility
Your responsibilities will include:
- Supporting the Principal in achieving the strategic objectives and operational management of the Academy
- Strategic oversight of and responsibility for SEND and literacy across the school
- Ensuring that the Academy is compliant with the SEND Code of Practice (2014) and other statutory requirements
- Working as part of the SLT to ensure an ethos of Inclusion and a culture of high aspirations for students with SEND
- Working as part of the SLT to ensure the implementation of SEND and literacy policies
- Maintaining the Academy’s SEND register
- The accurate identification of SEND across the Academy, ensuring a rigorous and thorough assessment process, including assessing literacy levels
- Coordinating testing and paperwork for access arrangements
- Embedding and monitoring Quality First Teaching across the Academy
- The Academy SEND and literacy provision, ensuring high quality targeted interventions enabling students with SEND to make better progress
- Providing a programme of professional development with regard to SEND and literacy
- Tracking the progress of students with SEND, using a wide range of Academy data to identify and overcome barriers to learning
- Deploying staff and resources according to the needs of students
- Planning, monitoring and reviewing the intent, implementation and impact of literacy policies and practices
- Leading the literacy curriculum including ’daily DEAR’ (Drop Everything and Read)
- Leading staff development of literacy skills and whole school curriculum development of literacy
What We are Looking For
We would like to hear from you if you have:
- A good Honours degree
- Hold a postgraduate teaching qualification (QTS or equivalent)
- NASENCO qualification or the necessary experience and willingness to undertake the new NPQ for SENDCOs immediately.
- SEN experience in a secondary school
- Evidence of successful teaching experience
- Evidence of pastoral experience
- Experience of writing department self-evaluation
- Experience of lesson observations and giving feedback
- Experience of improvement planning
- Experience of implementing a range of strategies to raise student achievement, with evidence of success
- Experience of contributing to curriculum and quality of teaching & learning
- Experience of developing and sustaining positive relationships with students, parents and staff to build consensus support and capacity
- Proven track record of managing and implementing change in relation to teaching practices and standards
- A track record of success in leadership and management
