As a Senior Litigation Lawyer, you will play a crucial role in providing strategic, high-level legal advice to the organisation, its members, and officers. You will support the Principal Lawyer and Legal Services management team in delivering innovative solutions in Housing and Litigation, enabling the organisation to progress towards its goals. This position will also involve leading and managing a team of lawyers and support staff, ensuring the delivery of high-quality legal work across multiple disciplines and sites.
Responsibilities:
- Take personal responsibility for a caseload of complex matters, acting as a subject expert with minimal supervision.
- Supervise high-risk matters within the team, supporting the Principal Lawyer.
- Provide support to other teams during peak times or resource shortages.
- Support complex strategic projects, ensuring a focus on innovative and commercial solutions.
- Keep the organisation, clients, and members updated on legal developments and advise on the impact of new legislation.
- Lead a team of up to 10 lawyers and support staff, potentially working across multiple sites.
- Carry out advocacy as required on your caseload.
- Attend council meetings to provide legal and governance advice.
- Produce or comment on reports for various decision-making processes.
Qualifications:
- Qualified solicitor or barrister with a practising certificate.
- Highly developed competence in people management, leadership, service improvement, and transformational change.
- Knowledge and experience in local government operations, including the financial, legal, and political context.
- Understanding of local government powers and duties, with expertise in at least one area of law relevant to the organisation.
- Experience in Housing and Litigation and related areas.
