Job Purpose
· To support and lead Manufacturing Engineering of composite components and tooling across multiple projects. To ensure delivery is to specification, within time, cost and quality constraints.
Key Responsibilities
· Engineering
o Provide expertise in the manufacture of composite tooling and components and promote industry best practice methods within the engineering team.
o Develop and document composite manufacturing processes, e.g. instructions for cutting, laminating, curing, machining, bonding/assembly and inspection, to support the production of composite tooling and components.
o Ensure composite manufacturing processes meet design performance and quality requirements.
o Compile and manage Bills of Materials.
o Provide Manufacturing Engineering support to other functions within the business, e.g. design engineering, purchasing and production.
o Coordinate material and resource planning through the company’s ERP system.
· Project
o Lead projects from estimating and quotation through to delivery of parts to the customer.
o Ensure customer scope and requirements are documented and change appropriately managed.
o Establish and manage project plans and technical delivery.
o Liaise with customer representatives, ensuring their requirements are understood and met, or challenged (expectations managed) as required.
o Communicate with suppliers and compile specifications, to ensure subsequent manufacture is in accordance with design specifications.
· Leadership
o Oversight of junior team member’s work
o Mentoring and development of junior team members
o Develop the company’s engineering systems and procedures
o Inspire positive change and continuous improvement.
· Company Support
o Fully comply with Company Policies and Procedures, including Health and Safety, at all times.
o Support shop floor staff to ensure products are manufactured in accordance with design specification.
- Support design for manufacture reviews.
Knowledge and Experience
· Essential
o Composite manufacturing technologies and processes.
o Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing, including manufacturing process limitations.
o Experience in technically leading teams to deliver engineering projects.
· Desirable
o Aerospace and/or defence experience.
o Experience of composite tooling design.
o Design engineering, i.e. CAD.
o CNC programming.
o Working with ERP systems, preferably SYSPRO.
Skills
· Effective organisational, interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
· Self-motivated, with the ability to organise, prioritise and complete work within required project timescales.
· Work accurately, with good attention to detail.
· Have a practical mindset and pragmatic approach to engineering problem solving.
· Aptitude for building productive working relationships at all levels (with colleagues and customers).
Qualifications
A degree, HND/HNC or an equivalent vocational qualification in a relevant engineering discipline, with or working towards professional registration.
