Job Purpose
To lead front-line delivery of this organisations external communications and media relations activity designed to promote its work, protect its reputation and achieve its strategic aims - working with the Associate Director of Media and Campaigns, the wider Communications Team, and key individuals from across the organisations to ensure a co-ordinated and multi-channel approach.
Key Accountabilities
- Lead the tactical delivery of external media relations activity - acting as a key contact between the organisation and the local, regional and national media including print and broadcast to ensure organisations view and opinions are effectively represented.
- Maximise the full potential of pre-existing social media channels through consistent monitoring, creating and publishing bespoke content and actively engaging with partners in online networks.
- Maintain an awareness of the news agenda and emerging news events, flagging issues appropriately within the organisation and taking appropriate action.
- Develop, maintain and nurture positive relationships with journalists and contacts (e.g. bloggers) in all forms of media, and be able to brief them off the record when appropriate
- Act as a key contact between the organisation and other stakeholders' press teams, including government departments, awarding organisations and other regulatory bodies.
- Be an active member of the 24-7 press duty rota to provide out of hours media support to the organisation.
- Work closely with Strategic Relationships teams to share information and intelligence that may affect approaches to stakeholder and media management and take pro-active and appropriate action to promote strategic aims coherently and effectively.
- Make sure clear objectives, outcomes and evaluation metrics are in place for all external communication strategies, plans and campaigns, using these to report on the impact, and analyse, adapt and improve communications work and outcomes.
- Co-ordinate the daily delivery of proactive and reactive media relations work and engagement - using brand messaging approach to develop media lines, identifying positive story opportunities, preparing statements, news stories, handling plans and briefings on high-profile and complex issues.
- Be flexible and help communications team colleagues with other work such as preparing documents for publication on GOV.UK.
- Be the main contact for the Chief Regulator's visits to schools and colleges.
- Create engaging, concise and quality content for news stories, press packs, and lines to take, issuing within agreed protocols.
- Monitor and evaluate media coverage to inform the organisation's communications and regulatory activities, and request corrections when appropriate.
- Develop and maintain good working relationships internally and externally to support the organisation in achieving its objectives.

- Supporting your manager with risk management by reporting/escalating any identified risks or issues, as appropriate.
