Live a life more Virgin.Our TeamThe Platform Engineering team is part of Core Platforms within Technology Operations and Cyber Security (TOCS). Our purpose is to manage and maintain the Bank's development and release platform. This is used to deliver and operate the Bank's applications using a mixture of in-house and industry leading products.We are looking for a Senior Platform Engineer to bring expertise and knowledge to help us develop and support our Capacity management capabilities. We're looking for someone who loves the techy side of being a technologist but also someone who cares about delivering great customer experiences. At the heart of this role is a passion for delivering the principles of observability, monitoring and Capacity Management to enable us to take the resiliency and stability of our platforms to the next level.You'll have a keen eye for spotting opportunities to do things better using your experience and best practice. Insatiable curiosity will inspire you to learn and develop on the go as our technologies change.Here's what you'll be doing:

  • Ensure current and future infrastructure growth and change can be accommodated.
  • Ensure business change and impacts to existing infrastructure can be accommodated.
  • Proactively capture and address infrastructure impacts in respect to capacity.
  • Provide consultancy and expertise.
  • Provide technical support to develop and manage the Capacity Management tooling in the estate.
  • Bring expertise to support development of our Capacity Management capabilities.
  • Identify, engineer, quality assure and implement technical solutions.
  • Collaborate with internal and external parties to provide excellent customer service.

We need you to have:

  • Experience of understanding the end-to end IT system infrastructure landscape for on-prem and Cloud.
  • Experience in analysing infrastructure metrics & data to proactively reduce or avoid capacity issues and incidents from occurring.
  • Industry experience in implementing and supporting Capacity Management solutions ideally with a strong technology operations background.
  • Experience working with a wide range of stakeholders including business stakeholders to understand growth requirements and support business change initiatives.
  • Experience of developing and integrating toolsets for the collection and storage of time series data.
  • Ability to use data modelling techniques to predict future platform risks and issues.
  • Technical expertise with the ability to own, diagnose and resolve platforms issues.
  • Experience of delivering components of Capacity Management strategy and roadmap.
  • Experience of Capacity Management tooling such as Grafana, Influx, TCO or similar.
  • VMware, Linux, Windows Server experience.

It's a bonus if you have but not essential:

  • Numerate, data science experience.
  • Practical experience working within large multi-platform environments.
  • Experience in our toolchain : Openshift / Kubernetes, Docker, GIT version control and Github usage (including direct API access), Jenkins, GoCD, Bash
  • A developer mindset and automation skills to match in languages such as Python, Java or JavaScipt
  • Excellent and varied shell script programming (Linux / Windows)
  • Experience of working in multidisciplinary agile teams
