Job description

ABOUT ZENOBE

Our goal is to make clean power accessible, to accelerate the shift to zero carbon power and transport.

We’re building and operating the world’s most sophisticated battery systems to enable the uptake of more renewable power and accelerating fleet electrification, de-risking the transition to zero-emission transport at scale. We’ve been consistently innovative since we were founded in 2017, achieving major industry firsts and using proprietary software and data analysis to optimise operational performance for our customers. At the end of their life, we repurpose electric vehicle batteries to provide clean power at depots, on construction sites and film sets.

Today we have 730 MW of grid scale battery storage operational and under construction and are the largest owner and operator of EV buses in the UK, Australia, and New Zealand, supporting over 1,000 electric vehicles worldwide. In our first five years we have raised nearly £1.8 billion in funding and have expanded into other markets such as the US. Our rapidly growing company is looking for highly talented and motivated people to join us.

THE OPPORTUNITY

We are looking for an accomplished and proficient IC7 Senior Principal Data Engineer to spearhead our Data Engineering efforts within our dynamic engineering team. The ideal candidate will possess extensive expertise in Data Engineering, specifically in managing IoT data, handling data in motion, collaborating closely with data scientists and analysts, and demonstrating specialized knowledge in managing electric vehicle charging networks.

This pivotal role demands a strategic outlook, strong technical acumen, and outstanding leadership capabilities to conceptualize and deploy robust data solutions aligned with our organization's data-driven objectives. While this position entails strategic planning and architectural design, it also emphasizes a hands-on approach to implementation.

A TASTE OF THE DAY TO DAY

  • Identify and execute significant engineering opportunities aligned with company-wide business objectives or strategic mission components.
  • Lead and deliver multi-year, multi-team initiatives or strategic objectives with significant complexity.
  • Own and deliver company-wide product or platform goals, ensuring scalability and adaptability to future business needs.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to influence organizational strategy and achieve business-impacting goals.
  • Demonstrate deep domain expertise in data platforms and technologies to drive unique business value.
  • Align technical strategy across projects to support broader company initiatives and objectives.
  • Influence product decisions and scope, making informed technical tradeoffs to deliver customer value quickly and with high quality.
  • Partner with stakeholders to identify and unlock major new business opportunities through technical capabilities.
  • Drive large projects to high standards, meeting tight deadlines or clarifying significant ambiguity.
  • Proactively identify and address deviations in project outcomes, refocusing efforts to drive meaningful results.
  • Understand and leverage technical levers to drive impactful outcomes, considering cross-functional implications.
  • Take ownership and responsibility for acting on opportunities that improve outcomes for customers and the business.
  • Lead decision-making processes, using experience and judgment to optimize for broader organizational goals.
  • Introduce and drive change within the organization, fostering innovation and agility in technical approaches.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, inclusion, and high performance within the engineering organization.
  • Promote and role model company core values, influencing organizational health and culture.
  • Develop compelling and clear messages, effectively communicating technical strategies and decisions at executive levels.
  • Mentor and coach team members, supporting their growth and development towards excellence.
  • Actively participate in talent acquisition efforts, attracting diverse talent and contributing to hiring processes.
  • Advocate for and embody the company's cultural tone, ensuring alignment with core values and mission.
