Senior Risk Lawyer - Professional Indemnity

The vacancy
As my client continues to grow, they are seeking to appoint a Senior Risk Lawyer in a newly created role, offered on a remote, hybrid or in office basis (with a choice of Southampton, Guildford, Woking or Richmond) depending on individual preference.
As they continue to grow, they are seeking to bring in house the management of their Professional Indemnity processes. We are therefore seeking an experienced Senior Risk Lawyer to to implement and manage the Professional Indemnity processes in house - from providing advice and guidance to other peers/colleagues, through to investigating and collating evidence to support potential PI claims. Ultimately, you’ll be responsible for managing the firm’s Professional Indemnity claims from beginning to end. There is of course plenty of support from the wider Risk and Best Practice team, along with colleagues in practice areas that you’ll be working with on matters that arise.
More broadly, key responsibilities will include the follow:
- Claims Management:
o Managing the end-to end Professional Indemnity claims process, from initiation to resolution ensuring timely and accurate handling of potential/actual claims.
o Advising on merits of potential/actual claims and collaborating with fee earners and partners, panel insurers and/or external counsel to gather necessary information and documentation for claims investigation.
o Drafting claims notifications to insurers.
o Recording claims data entries onto the claims database and ensuring this is kept up-to-date.
- Legal Analysis and Drafting
o Conducting legal analysis and research to assess the validity of claims and potential legal risk.
o Providing legal opinion and recommendations to management regarding the resolution of claims.
- Litigation Support
o Collaborating with external legal counsel and panel insurers when necessary, providing guidance on legal strategy and ensuring effective representation in litigation matters.
- Risk Mitigation
o Leading and managing root cause analysis and feedback and providing recommendations for improvement
o Preparing and presenting on management reports regarding claims provision of regular claims management information to Head of Risk & Best Practice.
o Leading on periodic reviews of claims and claims management information.
o Attending insurer led meetings and mediation as may be required from time to time.
- Regulatory compliance
o Monitoring relevant legal/regulatory developments impacting claims management and advising on their implementation within the Firm.
o Assisting with enquiries from the SRA or other regulatory bodies as directed by the Head of Risk & Best Practice.
o Leading/assisting with compliance investigations and projects as required.
o Assist with the firm’s policies and procedures to maintain compliance.
o To lead/assist in the design and delivery of firm wide compliance training including complaints
o Supporting the work to achieve annual accreditation e.g. Lexcel, CQs etc handling and claims management training.
About you
You’ll be a qualified solicitor, with extensive experience in the field of Risk and the management of Professional Indemnity claims. This may have been gained within Private Practice with another law firm, or alternatively you might work in-house within a professional services or insurance firm. Either way, you’ll have excellent analytical skills, brilliant people skills in order to research, record and analyse potential claims and be able to provide impartial advice to our colleagues with care and expertise. You’ll likely have strong IT skills, and used to claims management systems such as VinciWorks Omnitrack or Access.
This is a senior position, so would likely suit an individual of 'Senior Associate’ or equivalent level and experience. The role provides significant opportunity for further development and in time, it is anticipated that this role would lead to 'Head of Professional Indemnity’.
