Job description

The British Medical Association (BMA) is the trade union and professional body for doctors in the UK. We represent, support and negotiate on behalf of all UK doctors and medical students.

 An  opportunity has arisen for a full time Senior Solicitor to join our legal team on a 12 month fixed term contract. The successful applicant will provide in-house legal support and deliver commercial legal advice to colleagues across the BMA. This is a part-time position for 32 hours per week.

This is hybrid role that will involve working a minimum of 1 day per week in the London office.

 

About the role:

We’re looking for an experienced commercial lawyer (ideally with some in-house experience) to support colleagues across the BMA by providing a broad range of independent commercial, corporate and company legal advice.

To be successful as a Senior Solicitor you’ll have:

  • Professionally qualified solicitor of England & Wales, with min 3 years in-house legal experience in the UK (Essential)
  • Experience working as an in-house commercial solicitor(desirable)
  • Strong team player with the ability to collaborate on projects with immediate team members as well as BMA client colleagues
  • Ability to communicate legal risk advice
  • Experience providing constructive and practical commercial solutions that are legally compliant and assist the delivery of BMA’s commercial and corporate objectives
  • Extensive experience of analysing, negotiating and closing commercial transactions
  • Proven experience of providing appropriate legal risk advice
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills
  • Focussed approach to delivering results by working to tight deadlines
  • A strong commitment to high standards of service delivery and excellent customer care
  • Capacity to be calm under pressure and work flexibly to meet pressured demands and conflicting BMA client colleague requirements.
