As a Senior DBA, you will find yourself at the heart of a rapidly evolving environment in a multifaceted and dynamic role, drawing upon a wide skillset of modern database administration approaches and techniques, including coding, SQL development, and scripting.
You'll be at the forefront of testing, deploying, operating, and monitoring our platforms and services across a variety of technologies, including on-prem SQL server, Azure SQL, Data Factories, Gateways, Warehouses, Lakes, and the Dataverse. Your goal? Ensuring we continue to deliver top-notch services that not only meet but exceed current and future requirements for reliability, security, availability, capacity, and performance.

Wondering about a day in the life of a Senior DBA? You’ll:
- Design well-architected data storage and management solutions for our critical services.
- Applying modern frameworks and patterns to support and maintain databases and data storage technologies, ensuring they are well-managed, monitored, up-to-date, secure, and performant, including scripting, SQL and T-SQL development to automate routine tasks.
- Testing and improving our data back-up and resilience strategies for critical business-facing services, ensuring we have the ability to restore our critical services in the event of an incident.
- Improving the security of our services, reviewing security and access requirements, hardening databases in line with industry recognised benchmarks, managing encryption and decryption keys, and ensuring data is protected from unauthorised access.
What does it take to be a Senior DBA?
- Seasoned in managing portfolios of databases and data storage services in modern enterprise settings.
- Expert in database design, performance tuning, and normalisation principles for on-premise and cloud-based services.
- Experience embedding security controls to mitigate against security threats, providing privacy and security by default and design.
- Proficient in resilience strategies, backups, and restoration, aligning with best practices.
- Strong knowledge of Azure data management and storage technologies like Azure Data Factory, Azure Data Lake Storage, and Azure Cosmos DB.
- Strong proficiency in the SQL and T-SQL programming languages with a solid experience developing and supporting data management processes, such as SSIS, Power BI, SSAS, and ETL.
